Growing up, I was taught my family wasn’t racist. Yet mom still said racial slurs.
I was taught we weren’t homophobic. Yet mom still grounded me for coming out gay and when I had my first public girlfriend.
I was taught we were religious. Yet mom only went to church on holidays and couldn’t even recite a single verse.
I grew up judging like it was okay. Yet I felt bad when I was judged. So as I grew, I learned, that’s not fine. I learned mom wasn’t really a Christian, she was racist, and homophobic.
Live the way you claim. Preach the way you live. No matter what you were taught.
It doesn't take someone raising you. It takes YOU being who you want to be.
